Choosing triathlon and aero wheels

  • Rim depth – 38–50mm rims are a great all-rounder for hilly or windy courses. 55–65mm rims suit flatter, faster riding, and 80mm+ rims are built for time trials and flat triathlon courses.
  • Crosswinds – deeper rims catch more side wind, especially at the front. Many riders run a shallower front wheel with a deeper rear, and DT Swiss front and rear wheels can be bought separately to mix and match.
  • Weight vs aero – on flat and rolling courses aerodynamics matter more than weight. If your races include long climbs, a mid-depth rim is the better balance.
  • Compatibility – check your bike's brake type, axles and freehub before ordering. Our DT Swiss ARC wheels are disc brake with Centrelock rotor mounts.
