Choosing road and gravel wheels

  • Rim depth – shallow rims (around 20–35mm) are light and easy to handle, ideal for climbing, all-round riding and gravel. Deeper rims (45mm and up) are more aero and suit fast, flat riding. See our triathlon & aero wheels.
  • Alloy or carbon – alloy wheels are durable and great value for training and gravel. Carbon wheels are lighter and stiffer, and allow deeper aero rim shapes.
  • Internal rim width – a narrower rim suits 25–32mm road tyres, while gravel tyres of 35mm and wider are best on a wider rim. Check the internal width in each product's specs.
  • Disc or rim brake – most new road and gravel bikes use disc brakes with 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru-axles. Check whether your bike uses a Centrelock or 6-bolt rotor mount.
  • Tubeless ready – most of our road and gravel wheels are tubeless ready, letting you run lower pressures with fewer punctures.
