This is as close as it gets to riding the Tour Down Under yourself. The Adelaide Epic Ride gives everyday riders the chance to take on a Stage 3 course on closed roads, hours before the pros arrive.
There are three ride options to suit different appetites. A shorter 63km route from Meadows to Nairne, a mid-length 116km ride starting at Flagstaff Hill, or the full experience. The longest option is 136km with around 1,900 metres of climbing, rolling out from Henley Beach at 6:00am and following the exact same route the professional peloton races later that day.
All routes finish in Nairne, where you can stick around to watch the stage finish and soak up the race atmosphere. From there, you can jump on the shuttle bus back to Adelaide, or, if you are feeling particularly ambitious, ride the roughly 70km back into the CBD.
Expect a big day in the saddle and likely warm conditions. Pace yourself, fuel well, enjoy the climbs and take in the atmosphere. It is challenging, rewarding and one of the standout experiences of the week.
Registration for the Adelaide Epic Ride is required in advance.
